Job Rotation & it’s Impact on Employee & Company Performance

What is Job Rotation

Job rotation is a strategy that employees get swift their job responsibilities between the jobs in same organization. Job rotation is a key strategy to gain experience for employees in various job roles, as well have develop their career to take responsibilities in various areas & also it will help to improve employee skills. Job rotation is not promotion always, but it is move workers from one job responsibility to other (Grey, 2017).

Job rotation strategy we have both positive & negative impacts to worker as well as to the organization & this journal to discuss both advantages & disadvantages of job rotation.

Advantages of Job Rotation

By doing job rotation will not only help to develop employee career & that will benefit to improve competitive advantage to organization too.

Eliminate Employee Boredom: When a company does not have opportunity to offer promotions, employees must work on same position for longer period & that creates stresses on employees by doing same work over & over the years. This will impact to performance for he/she job duties. By doing job rotation employee will get new duties & responsibilities, which will help them to work in different conditions & on different tasks. This may help to get rid from the stress that they have by doing same job over the period (Grey, 2017).

Encourage Development: With new job duties & responsibilities, employee must have to learn on activities of new role, which will develop their work career by make them capable to manage various tasks. Also, by develop their skill they will be more valuable for organization too (Grey, 2017).

Employees get a Break from Strenuous Job Duties: Some workers, specially who does heavy duty works, can get some break from their job duties & attach with new duties, which are not heavy duty or like office paperwork jobs. Also, this will help them to get recover from any pains that they suffer due to heavy duty jobs (Grey, 2017).

Identify the Strength of Employee: By doing job rotation strategy, organization can identify the area that the employee strong. People do not get always correct job what they capable of most, with the current situation some people tend to grab the job what they get by the organization, but in actual scenario they might be capable of some other works. Rotation of job duties will help organization to understand where their employees capable of (Grey, 2017).

Company gets Backup Plan: Since the employees get knowledge & experience of couple of job responsibilities, which gives competitive advantage to organization when an employee resigns from his position. Company does not need to stress out to perform the job duties of resign person & if it is important role that company can sit the person who trained the job role without much hassle (Grey, 2017).

Can get Improvements to Perform of Job Duties: When employees engaged to new job role, while he/she learn the job, he/she may look on new and uncomplicated ways to perform the job duties & the person who does this over the years, could not see this, as he/she has addict to certain way to perform. So, by doing job rotation organization can get this competitive advantage too.

Disadvantages of Job Rotation

In job rotation strategy there are disadvantages too, as well as it has advantages.

Can be Costly & Time Consuming: When rotate the job duties, organization has to train the new person to position & there will be cost involve & also the time he taken to adopt with new role will be matters to perform the job duties (Grey, 2017).

Could end up with Disgruntled Employees: Some employees are comfortable with the job duties, tasks what they currently does & they feel uncomfortable when job rotations. Such will impact to lose some experienced workers to organization and less performance of new job role (Grey, 2017).

This will not Solve All Problems: Employees get stressed on work due to various issues & it is not only cos of doing the same work duties over the years (Grey, 2017).

Job Rotation not Feasible of Some Industries: When it comes to high skilled positions that employees need year of experience to performance job duties, the job rotation will not be feasible to do (Grey, 2017).

Can Impact to Business: This can impact to organization business activities & plans. It may get time to adjust employee to adopt with new job duties & by the time the employee full adopt job there can be errors, which can impact heavy to origination profits & image. Also, the actions of unsatisfied employees due to job rotation can impact to organization (Grey, 2017).

Conclusion

As above discussed, there are positive & negative impacts to employee as well as to organization due to job rotation strategy. Organization HR & management must have to implement job rotation strategy with goods sense always & to get the job rotation success, organization need to have,

  • ·         Clear set of goals (Grey, 2017)
  • ·         Clear understand that employee rotation from which position to which position (Grey, 2017)
  • ·         Analyze how the job rotation benefitted to employee & organization growth (Grey, 2017)
