Internship can define as a position that trainee or student who works in an organization. Students join with organizations as intern to satisfy requirement for qualifications & when trainee join as intern that will be mostly to gain work experience. Sometimes interns get pay & sometimes not, but even pay it will be small amount.

Benefits of Internship

By create effective programs organizations can have several benefits by interns,

Giving Opportunity: Unemployment percentage is higher in current society & if company can provide internship that will benefit lot & it may help to minimize the unemployment percentage even in small amount. Also, that will be helpful to a younger to craft his/her future.

Can use as Recruitment Tool: By giving opportunity for youngers to join as interns, company could monitor how the individual engaged with job duties & how takes the ownership of what does. This helps company to understand future suitable worker to company (Chegg Internships, 2019).

Get Advantage of Loa Cost Labor: Organizations sometimes pays for interns & sometimes not. Since the intern by himself need to gain work experience or need to gather qualifications, he/she tend to work hard to complete his/her job duties & responsibilities. This will serve company requirement of get the work with low cost (Chegg Internships, 2019).

Increase Productivity: Since the intern need to get confirm his/her position in company always tend to work hard to complete job. This will help to improve the productivity of the company (Chegg Internships, 2019).

Give back to Society: By having effective internship program, organization can craft even an average person to a skilled person & release to society. This will help to minimize the skill gap in job market (Chegg Internships, 2019).

Create Effective Internship Program

It is organization HR responsibility to identify it department requirements & arrange internship programs & minimize the organization cost with take new people in & also work with internal departments to get the work what they need. Also, HR responsibility to craft the interns career life with arrange effective internship program. By creating effective internship program organizations could attract new talent people, while offering experience students (Peek, 2020). There are seven steps to create effective internship programs,

Hire an Internship Cordinator: It is must that there should be internship coordinator to carryout the program with work with interns from first date to last date. It does not need outside for this & internal person who has adequate time to involve with interns while do the job could take this in place (Peek, 2020).

Understand State of Internship Law: HR does have enough knowledge about the state law of internship. Some interns get paid & some are not & want to know the minimum wages for intern. HR does need to know what law says to avoid unnecessary conflict (Peek, 2020).

Set Goals for Internship Program: It is must that set goals for interns to meet at the end of the program. Organization might give supporting work to intern or work on major project. But there should be set of goals that company looking for & that needs to describe clearly to intern at the beginning of the program work with them closely to drive them to meet the goals. Also, need to provide them feedback of their works & drive (Peek, 2020).

Create an Application Process: need to think that what type of intern that you are looking for and must design application to the way that organization could find right type of person (Peek, 2020).

Mentor to each Intern: It is better to allocate a mentor to each intern, who could help intern to develop personal & professional skills/attitudes. Mentor could be a person from organization, but who could have time & ability to guide the intern (Peek, 2020).

Focus on Intern Development: Most of the time it might be the first professional experience to intern, so it is important to collaborate with intern & develop individually. Make them learn about the industry & also get involve them & discuss on issues that intern experienced while conduct the work/project & discuss the actions can take to minimize/eliminate such (Peek, 2020).

Keep in Touch: Once intern end the internship program, he/she should have good knowledge about the organization & how it works & its procedures as well as culture. If any open organization he/she should be the best fit to that, as less cost for train as well as to hire. Even if not still need to stay connected with intern as he/she can be client or vendor for the organization in future. So, better HR to stay connected with your intern.

Conclusion

As above discussed, it is always benefit to an organization for have internship programs & also it is help to person & the society too. But it all depends how the company design the internship program & that will creates value to organization as well as the person who benefit from that.
